The Book Thief
The Book Thief
Alert: There may be some things that are considered spoilers in this post.
I am about 60 percent of the way through this audio book. I normally don’t review a book before I am done reading it, but I am loving this book and I can’t wait to review it.
First, the narrator the the book is DEATH!! The narrator to me is the best part of the whole book. He is a sweet, loving, wonderful friend who just so happens to be collecting souls of people as they pass.
The book is set during WWII in Germany and the main Character is a young girl.
There is some death in this book (outside of the narrator. lol). But I don’t find it to be the kind of book that makes me cry. It does approach the gravity of the situation going on but so far has not been too heavy.
I wish I had read this book in school. It is a story with lots of interest and takes these historical significant events and makes them personal and interesting.
Here are a couple of my favorite quotes.
“People observe the colors of a day only at its beginnings and ends, but to me it’s quite clear that a day merges through a multitude of shades and intonations with each passing moment. A single hour can consist of thousands of different colors. Waxy yellows, cloud-spot blues. Murky darkness. In my line of work, I make it a point to notice them.”

“I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race – that rarely do I even simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant…I AM HAUNTED BY HUMANS.”
